Infinity Ward, I don’t love you anymore

For years now, Infinity Ward have been making games that have, to some degree, blown us all away. And now, when releasing their undoubtedly biggest title to date, Modern Warfare 2 is set to blow us all away yet again. This is all brilliant stuff and Infinity Ward needs all the cred and kudos that they deserve – but haven’t they been acting like real cunts lately? Pardon my French but I have been reading up on my Interwebs as of recent and all I see is Infinity Ward spitting gamers in the face, over and over again.

Let’s take a look… First of all there is the legendary announcement that modders can fuck off. Okay, no mods or dedicated servers for the online experience – fine, it’s abit of a kick in the nuts but I’ll play ball. After all, Modern Warfare 2 will be an immersive, spectacular monster of a game… Then a petition was made from the PC community, pleading for some sanity from IW’s part. Over 100000 angry PC gamers signed the petition but alas, it changed nothing. That’s abit of a shame and I started realizing something, have Infinity Ward become cheeky? They fucking KNOW that Modern Warfare 2 will be the biggest thing since prostitution and I believe that this has gone to their heads. They’re not designing games for us anymore; they’re doing it for themselves!

Well you know what, Infinity Ward? It’s a damned shame that you have lost your ways. Sure, you’re not completely ignoring all gamers out there but you are ignoring your roots! Infinity Ward started on the PC and now they’re just going to cast it aside? Not letting thousands of creative people edit and mod your game so that more people might enjoy it?

One group of PC modders tried striking back at Infinity Ward, only to be met with an amazing show or arrogance. Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward’s Community Manager had this to say.

“Really? Copyright infringment claim? :sigh:

Really, Mr. Bowling? Why not do a fucking , while you’re at it? You make games for GAMERS – we are your CONSUMERS and you SERVE us. It doesn’t matter whether there was a copyright infringement or not, how about a piece of fucking humble pie, huh? There are such things as manners, you know – it isn’t necessary to act like a fucking douche just because you’re the top dog, for the time being.

I for one, will not be purchasing your game. The way Infinity Ward have been acting lately has put a really bad taste in my mouth and giving my money to you will not make it go away.

I hope you read this.

Noobtalk indeed. This guy obviously has no clue what he’s talking about. All of his credibility went out the window with the word “cunt”, and he kept making himself look stupid throughout the article. He also has a few stupidly skewed opinions, and what seems to be a God Complex. Yes, we ARE the consumers, but guess what? IW doesn’t SERVE us, moron. Robert Bowling’s statement was perfectly legit, because the copyright infringement claim was so laughable as to be RETARDED. I’m not defending IW’s choices, but this guy needs to just stop writing if this is his style, because he sucks at it.

I think the guy has some good points, but those points are kind of curbed by his anger. I mean, stating in his article that there are “a thing called manners” and then he turns around and is rude as all hell. That isn’t going to help the cause at all. yes, I do agree that IW as a company should most certainly be treating their customer base a little better then they are. At the very least they should have publicly addressed peoples concerns about the lack of dedicated servers, and other choices they’ve made. Which, I guess they sort of did I mean, every time it was brought up the answer was somewhat along the lines of “Oh, don’t worry about that; IWnet is going to be much better.” Statements like that don’t do anything for the consumer we aren’t idiots so, most of us aren’t going to take the stance of “Well… you said it IW so it must be true.”

I think that IW is being arrogant as hell. There have been interviews where they say “We want the customers to play the game we designed” which is all well and good, I mean, most of us are going to do that anyway, but not allowing the game to be modded is… short-sighted at best. I think that this minor problem was exacerbated by IW because they did basically tell the PC gaming community to take their concerns and shove it, which is not a way to handle any customers, happy or not.

They do serve us in the sense that they are providing us a product, but not in the sense that we own them, that’s just crazy so I don’t think they are directly accountable to us, especially if we as a community didn’t do anything to invest in the creation of the game. I know a lot of us bought modern warfare, but that’s not the same as investing money into the game, actually taking a risk and dishing out money for something that hasn’t been created yet.

The bottom line for me is that I would like IW to actually address the PC community’s concerns without all the arrogance, I am pretty sure I would be a lot happier, as well as other people if they just approached the situation with some grace, and respect for the gamers as a whole, which I don’t necessarily think they did. This alone could have swayed me to purchase the game, since at this point I have no plans to do so.

Wow, what a whiny little brat.
“we are your CONSUMERS and you SERVE us”
Haha, a misguided sense of entitlement I think. Fool.
